eBay sales from Japan and FedEx fees

Shipping agency work.

I have stopped selling on eBay because they add fees and import taxes to the item price and shipping costs. Even though the listings are inactive, my past listings seem to still be viewable, and I regularly receive inquiries.

I received a message this time as well, and since it seemed manageable, I sold a tail light. As usual, going through eBay makes the prices high.

The fees paid by me as a Japanese seller are mainly three: eBay fees, exchange fees, and DDP fees.

Regarding DDP, it is practically reflected in the item price so the buyer is paying it, but FedEx and others charge additional fees later.

The breakdown is import taxes + US collection fees + FedEx agency fees. It’s actually 12.5 percent, but fees with unclear calculation formulas are added on top of that. And starting in October, these fees will be increasing.

Furthermore, even for the same item, import taxes sometimes have additional charges, making the situation confusing. In particular, FedEx has many erroneous charges; out of 10 shipments, about 3 come with incomprehensible charges, which get withdrawn when I inquire.

I sometimes think they might be making a profit even with incorrect charges because many people just pay if they are billed. In Japan, FedEx’s reputation is that other than being fast, there are no good points. There is no compensation, handling is rough with frequent damages, and there are many reviews about slow payouts even when claims are made.

I suppose part of it is due to their large volume of handled goods, but since even in my case about 30% are overcharged, companies with high shipping volumes must have incredible amounts of overcharging.
